Founded by MacArthur and Ashoka Fellow Rosanne Haggerty in 1990, Common Ground is a pioneer in the development of supportive housing and other research-based practices that end homelessness. Common Ground’s network of well designed, affordable apartments — linked to the services people need to maintain their housing, restore their health, and regain their economic independence — has enabled more than 4,000 individuals to overcome homelessness.”
“Covenant House New York is the nations largest adolescent care agency serving homeless, runaway and at-risk youth. Our doors are open 24 hours a day for youth in need. Each year nearly 7,000 youth seek out our Crisis and Community Centers for safety, shelter, food, and someone to talk to – and that’s just the beginning!
Covenant House began over 30 years ago when six young runaways were given shelter from a snowstorm, in the lower east side of Manhattan. Covenant House now has programs in 21 U.S. cities and Latin America. More than 77,000 young people are aided annually by Covenant House in its national and international programs.”
“The Actors’ Chapel is now home to Encore Community Services, a nonprofit dedicated to giving the many elderly men and women residing in this famous midtown theater district and neighboring Hell’s Kitchen/Clinton community an “encore” to life. Many of the elderly served by Encore are frail and live alone with little to no support networks of family and friends. The mission of Encore Community Services is to provide care and service to the elderly of the Clinton/Times Square/Midtown communities, and to any elderly person who comes to us; to assist those who are vulnerable and frail, poor and homeless, homebound and lonely, frequently desperate, most often ignored; to help them with their daily needs that they might live as independently as possible, with dignity and decency, in a non-institutional manner, in a safe and caring environment.”
“LIFEbeat is dedicated to reaching America's youth with the message of HIV/AIDS prevention. LIFEbeat mobilizes the talents and resources of the music industry to raise awareness and to provide support to the AIDS community.”

Since 1886, The Salvation Army has been providing social and spiritual services to communities throughout the world.
