Fashion Center BID and Times Square Alliance Launch New Initiative as Part of On-Going Campaigns to Bolster the Eighth Avenue Corridor

Blank SL8 is a “pop-up” hosting space facing the New York Times building in the Port Authority Bus Terminal on 41st Street and Eighth Ave.  The space is sponsored and managed by the Times Square Alliance and the Fashion Center BID in cooperation with the Port Authority Bus Terminal as an economic and community development tool to recreate  the perception of the PABT and Eighth Avenue as a vital and interesting corridor.  Retail and art tenants to date have included the Save Fashion store from Refinery 29, Areaware’s Design To Go shop, the Fashion Center’s Gallery 8,  chashama’s The Intimacies Project and as part of Perform ‘09,  Dexter Sinister.  These tenants have demonstrated quality retail and innovative art are desirable and successful uses for commuters, office workers, tourists and residents alike.

Terracycle, March 2010-Present

The World’s Largest ‘Green’ Pop-up Shop featured TerraCycle’s full line of over 100 products literally made from common waste materials such as chip bags, food wrappers, yogurt cups, glue bottles and writing instruments.  More >>

Save Fashion, May 2009

Save Fashion, a one-of-a-kind, pop-up shop showcased established fashion brands and rising style stars.  Save Fashion spotlighted New York’s most talented and coveted fashion designers. The showcased the merchandise of seven to ten designers each week, featuring a mix of both established and young up-and-coming creators in an ongoing sample sale and value-driven shopping experience.

AreaWare, August 2009

‘Design-to-Go,’ a one-of-a-kind, pop-up shop showcased some of New York’s most exciting new product designers, open from August 18 through September 26.  With a focus on novel designs of travel-related products created by local designers, “Design-to-Go” was, appropriately enough, located in the nation’s busiest and most vibrant transportation hubs, the Port Authority Bus Terminal, home to Blank SL8 (Blank Slate)

Dumbo, Brooklyn-based super - interesting! is working with the Times Square Alliance and The Fashion Center Business Improvement District to transform a long unused storefront in the
Port Authority Bus Terminal building into a temporary fashion retail and art exhibition space. The new space will provide young fashion designers and artists an exciting and highly visible stage to display and sell their work.
